Reading Season

It’s been a big reading and writing month! And I don’t just mean curling up with some novels in this unnecessarily cold weather (although there’s certainly been some of that too), but an assortment of reading for play committees and dramaturgy projects:

Expand the Canon

It’s another winter reading season for Expand the Canon! I’m enjoying reading and evaluating scripts in our quest to uplift stellar plays by women and gender-expansive writers across history – including some texts my Research Team retrieved in our archive visits last year. Want to check out some of the titles featured on our past ETC lists? We’ve got a podcast for that.

Dramaturgy for Young Audiences

As part of my long-standing collaboration with The Growing Stage, a wonderful theatre for young audiences in New Jersey, I continue to write and design student activity guides for each of their mainstage productions. The next installment of TGS’s New Play-Reading Festival is also on the horizon, and I look forward to diving into some scripts as we narrow down to a pool of four exciting finalists.

… and some Writing!

It’s been a month with lots of writing as well, as I continue to draft out some future Ladies & Fools ideas and submit a variety of applications. At last count, 2026 has so far included five directing submissions, three writing submissions, and a stage management submission.

Coming Up: Feb-March Calendar

Friday, February 6 - Cinderella: A Salsa Fairytale opens at The Growing Stage

In my work creating Student Activity Guides for each mainstage production at TGS, I have most recently enjoyed diving into this fresh take on the classical tale incorporating contemporary twists and Latin-American music.

Tuesday, February 9 - Bold Stroke for a Husband reading at The Public

Expand the Canon brings our next reading to NYC, partnering with The Acting Company. Join us for Hannah Cowley’s witty comedy of twists and turns, featuring five memorable female characters!

Monday, February 16 - Take Root with Forager Theatre Company

After a winter holidays hiatus, my ballroom and social dance classes are back! Forager’s pay-what-you-can all-levels dance class, Take Root will be running for an 8-week session of Monday evenings in February and March, themed around the music of RENT. My first class will be on 2/16 at 8pm teaching some Hustle-based choreo, and other classes throughout the session will blend jazz and contemporary styles.

Sunday, March 8 - En Pointe Dance Cabaret with Needs More Work Productions

Oh look, it’s another dance offering! My friends at Need More Work are putting together a fun cabaret evening combining song and dance, and I’ll be tagging along for some bits and bobs of choreography. Come join us at The RAT (Dumbo, Brooklyn) for a rhythmic evening!

Wednesday, March 18 - ETC Event in Washington, DC

Expand the Canon is going on the road! ETC will be partnering with the National Museum of Women in the Arts for a special event just in time for Women’s History Month, which I hope to join in-person.

January Highlights & Recommendations

Some favorite media and performances from the past month!

Reading The Wedding People by Alison Espach, The Favorites by Layne Fargo

A great month of novels for me – checked out two recent buzzed-about books with ties to classical literature, and very much enjoyed both!

In Community Loved catching up with the creative crew at Off The Lane for a very fun Vision Board evening.

Listening Many congrats to director-producer Dani Cummings and the Radio Violence team, who have won DiscoverPods’ Best Fiction Podcast for 2025! I had a blast contributing some sound effects and voice acting cameos to this innovative mystery podcast last summer.
