May: (Almost) Summer in the City

Updated: May 31, 2022

For the first time in several years I won’t be working outdoor theatre this summer, so I am certainly looking forward to attending some - and then returning to my air-conditioned office! Keep reading for a preview of a few of my anticipated seasonal projects including Roundabout duties and podcast releases, and I hope there’ll be a few surprises in store as well.

Quote of the Month

“Being an artist you have to abandon any notion of things making sense.”

- María Irene Fornés

Art & Media I enjoyed this month:

  • Reading The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab

  • Catching landmark revivals of The Skin of Our Teeth (Lincoln Center Theater) and Wedding Band (Theatre for a New Audience)

  • Hearing new play readings at the Ink’d Festival of New Plays (Playwrights Realm) and The Dorothy Streisin Fresh Ink Reading Series (Primary Stages)

  • Kicking off summer with A Midsummer Night’s Dream at New York City Ballet!

A few May outings!

Current & Upcoming at Roundabout

My main update on the Roundabout side of things is that I’ll be continuing in my current position with the artistic/literary department through the end of August! I’m looking forward to seeing our summer readings and workshops through their full processes, and getting to take part in the preparations for the fall season.

Although our 2021-22 Broadway season has now wrapped, with the closing of Birthday Candles at the end of May, we’ve still got plenty happening over the next few months. Exception to the Rule runs for one more month at the Roundabout Underground, and …what the end will be opens at the Laura Pels Theatre this week. Last but certainly not least the annual Refocus Project, this year featuring readings of under-produced classic plays by Latinx playwrights, will be a big focus of this month for my office - with four incredible plays getting in-person readings throughout June and available for free public streaming coming up in September!

Start of Summer across the Boroughs

Looking forward to enjoying more outdoor NYC spots as spring turns to summer!
