October: Theatrical Haunts

Quote of the Month

“I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.”

- L.M. Montgomery

Haunted Happenings

I’ve delayed publishing this post a few days in order to report back on my final October project - The Haunted Tavern! A vignette I wrote was included in an inventive evening of ten spooky short plays, produced by the Tivoli Players of Woodstock, NY from Oct 26-Nov 5. I caught the beginning of the second weekend, and it was a treat to see this fun little play up on its feet and get out of the city for a few days before all the leaves fall. It’s not my usual theatre craft, but I so enjoyed working on this project and will try to make a little more time for writing going forward!

Current & Upcoming Recap

Updates on a few projects I referenced last month!

  • Gingold Theatre Group’s Off-Broadway production of Arms and the Man is a thoughtful delight, and runs at Theatre Row through November 18.

  • Previously postponed by the early October flood, Hedgepig Theatre Ensemble’s This Is A Classic! Live event has been rescheduled to January 22. In the meantime, this year’s featured list of relevant and producible classic plays by female and non-binary playwrights has been released!

Fantastical Audio Adventures

In the podcast realm, I’ve spent this month directing rehearsals for next season’s Premiere the Play production, which will head into the recording studio next week. I have also been working on pre-production to direct an independent podcast, which will incorporate original musical composition to tell a narrative fantasy story over a short season of episodes. From the audience side that’s about all I can share for now… but if you’re an actor stay tuned, as casting breakdowns will be going out soon!

Watched and Visited in October

  • Currently reading The Robber Bride by Margaret Atwood and watching Our Flag Means Death

  • Catching a wonderful production of A Man for All Seasons at the Shakespeare Theatre of NJ

  • Visiting scenic autumn Woodstock, NY at the foot of the Catskills

Meanwhile in Visual Art

Fall is always a busy time for my visual art side projects, and I once again participated in the Drawtober drawing challenge this year! Both seasonal and all-occasion knits and art gifts can be found in the Queequeg & Paulina shops as the holiday season approaches.
