September: Back in the Room

This post I celebrate returning to theatre indoors and heading into the final stretch of my season in Gloucester. Looking forward to autumn in New England, and seeing where my next projects lead!

Quote of the Month

“Nature is a haunted house, but Art -- is a house that tries to be haunted.”

- Emily Dickinson

Media I enjoyed in September:

  • The filmed version of Come From Away (now streaming on Apple+), rarely have I been so grateful for a production to be archived on film

  • Reading Metropolitan Stories, by Christine Coulson

  • Hedgepig Ensemble Theatre’s This is a Classic: Expand the Canon podcast, highlighting classic plays by women and underrepresented genders

Current & Upcoming at Gloucester Stage

Following a successful run of Reparations earlier in the month, this week I am heading into tech for the world premiere of Think of Me Tuesday by local Gloucester playwright Ken Riaf. This will be the final production of Gloucester Stage’s mainstage season, and the first show to return indoors to GSC’s usual venue. I’m excited to return to the design flexibility of an inside tech process, and to welcome our audiences back into a more traditional theatre space (with all necessary mask and vaccination requirements in place). Performances begin October 1!

Painting on Cape Ann

The cape has a long history of inspiring plein air painters and artists of all mediums, so of course I’ve had to make a little time for watercolor while I’ve been here! So far I’ve only had a chance for quick sketches of summer scenes based on my photographs, but I look forward to the chance to expand some of these and add some autumn designs when not in rehearsal.

A Crafty Closing

This is where I give a little monthly shoutout to the Etsy shop to which I contribute, Queequeg & Paulina Vintage (on Instagram @Queequeg_PaulinaCrafts). We offer an ever-changing selection of varied vintage finds, beautiful hand-knitted accessories, and other exciting crafted items. Heading into spooky season we are now offering my “Ghost Light” watercolor design on three products - greeting cards, art prints, and vinyl stickers!
