June Journeys

This month was mostly focused on work projects (keep reading for a recap of the Refocus Project), but I also made time for a few out-of-town adventures and a very cool Tony Awards weekend. Looking forward to seeing what’s ahead in July!

Quote of the Month

“Well, well! it might be worse, and then again it might be a good deal better!”

- Gandalf, J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit

Media & Events I enjoyed this month:

  • Reading Gods of Jade and Shadow by Silvia Moreno-Garcia, and some assorted Tolkien

  • Attending varied productions, including catching the end of the Broadway revival run of for colored girls… and the opening of the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey’s new season, Enchanted April

  • Visiting the newly crowned Pulitzer Prize-winning play Fat Ham (at the Public Theater) and Tony-winning Best Musical A Strange Loop (on Broadway)

  • Getting out of the city to visit the new renaissance festival Kingdom Faire in its inaugural season!

A few June journeys!

Award Adventures

Earlier this month I had the exciting opportunity to volunteer to staff a portion of the Tony Gala, and to attend the award show’s dress rehearsal. It was a blast to see these showcase performances live, and very interesting to compare how the live show differs from the broadcast. And I definitely have new appreciation for all the artists and technicians who start working crazy early on a Sunday morning to get all those elements prepared!

Current & Upcoming at Roundabout

Our mainstage season is now winding down, with two weeks remaining to catch New York Times critics’ pick play …what the end will be off-Broadway at the Laura Pels Theatre. In my department we have also just finished producing our in-person reading festival for season two of the Refocus Project, aiming to refocus and broaden the classical canon by highlighting historically overlooked plays - this year with a focus on Latinx-American playwrights of the twentieth century. Three of these play readings have also been recorded, and will be available for streaming access in the fall. You can learn about the project here, as well as visiting this more extensive list of additional plays and further reading.

I’m looking forward to two more months at Roundabout, including several in-house reading processes for new plays in development, and preparation of dramaturgical materials for our fall season.

Watercolor Feature: Summer Specials

If you happen to be looking for a summer gift, I have recently added some new watercolor designs to my Etsy and Redbubble shops! The fun and seasonal design “Beach House” (pictured at right) is newly available on Redbubble, along with a tarot and mythology-inspired Artemis sketch. The theatrically-themed “Ghost Light” series continues to be popular on Etsy, with an updated sticker design coming soon, along with art prints and greeting cards still available.

Hoping to have some opportunities to sketch around NYC as the summer goes on!
