Into the Spring of Things

From researching dramaturgy during snowstorms… to choreographing during snowstorms… to writing applications during snowstorms… January and February saw a lot of inside-the-apartment projects. But with longer days and (hopefully) warmer weather, I’m eagerly looking forward to several rehearsal room and on-the-road projects just around the corner. I hope to see you there!

Dancing into Spring
It’s been a treat to choreograph for several dance projects this month, and I’m so excited to share the results soon! A shoutout to Needs More Work Productions for letting me play around with some Latin dance-inspired musical theatre choreography for their upcoming En Pointe dance cabaret (details below), and to Forager Theatre Company for dreaming up a themed Take Root session celebrating the 30th anniversary of RENT. This season our class teachers have all been choreographing songs from the show across a variety of dance styles, and the session will wrap up with an informal showing of the dances coming up in April.
Up Next: Étude
After a very fun stage management process for 8min20sec in December, I’m thrilled to be back in the booth soon with another powerful new work. Next week I’ll be heading into rehearsals for Ashley Griffin’s Étude, a beautiful play exploring the eternal connection of two soulmates through various guises and varied relationships across many lifetimes. We have assembled a wonderful team and I can’t wait to dive into the exciting creative challenges of this process. You can already save the date for our production run coming to The Tank this April, and I’ll have all the performance details ready for next month’s update!
Marching Forth: Upcoming Calendar
Sunday, March 8 - En Pointe Dance Cabaret with Needs More Work Productions
My friends at Need More Work are putting together a fun cabaret evening combining song and dance, and I’ll be tagging along for some bits and bobs of choreography. Come join us at The RAT (Dumbo, Brooklyn) for a rhythmic evening!

Monday, March 9 - Take Root with Forager Theatre Company
My ballroom and social dance classes with Forager continue this spring! Take Root is a pay-what-you-can, all-levels dance class featuring rotating instructors and styles, and this spring’s Monday evening classes are themed around the music of RENT. My next class will be on 3/9 at 8pm, and I’ll be teaching a combo to “Tango: Maureen.”
Wednesday, March 18 - Expand the Canon goes to Washington
Expand the Canon is going on the road! ETC is proud to be partnering with the National Museum of Women in the Arts for a special evening event just in time for Women’s History Month, which I look forward to joining onsite. If you also find yourself near DC in mid-March, consider dropping by the museum after-hours on 3/18 for art, music, and pop-up monologues.

February Highlights & Recommendations
Some favorite media and performances from the past month!
Reading The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova
On Stage Delighted to catch the beautiful blending of form and storytelling on display in the premiere of Marcel on the Train at Classic Stage (through March 22).
In Community Loved attending The Growing Stage’s “There's No Place Like Home” Concert, a wonderful reunion and love letter to one of my original artistic homes, this month celebrating 30 years at the historic Palace Theatre.
On Screen You can always find me watching figure skating whether it’s a Winter Olympics season or not – but this year everyone else joined in! Also thoroughly entertained to catch the Norwegian cross-country ski team doing their thing, and to learn about the existence of ski mountaineering.
