August: All the World’s a Stage

Updated: Sep 2, 2019

So much news this month! August started off with great theatre travel, and since returning home several different project opportunities have come up. Without further ado ...

Quote of the Month

“O for a Muse of fire, that would ascend the brightest heaven of invention”

- William Shakespeare, Henry V

Current & Upcoming

The last few weeks have involved a lot of commuting, but it has all been worth it to assistant direct my first New York festival show! I’ve been working on a production of a new play which will be playing at the Dream Up Festival, presented by Theater for the New City, during the week of September 8. More information can be found on the festival’s website.

Immediately following that, I am thrilled to announce that I will be assisting artistic director Bonnie J. Monte on her staged reading of Marisol at the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey on Monday, September 16. This is a special one-night event, and ticket information can be found here.

Brush Up Your Shakespeare

It is always a pleasure to visit the Stratford Festival and start your month with 6 shows in 3 days! This year’s impressive repertory lineup features a wonderful production of Billy Elliot, with phenomenal new choreography by Donna Feore to accommodate the Festival’s unique thrust stage, and a delightful take on Shakespeare’s Merry Wives of Windsor which imagines the tale’s small town hijinks in 1950’s Stratford. Another Shakespearean offering this season, Henry VIII is widely considered to be one of the Bard’s weaker texts, but Martha Henry’s streamlined production may have you questioning that judgement as it skillfully hones in on the pieces most compelling characters and moments. Presenting a much more contemporary take on the same era, Mother’s Daughter concludes playwright Kate Hennig’s brilliant trilogy on the Tudor queens and finally gives Mary I, England’s first reigning queen, the spotlight history has rarely given her.

And Stratford in summer is lovely outdoors as well!
